A Special Precession

Blessing(define)- "To be blessed" means 'to be favored by God'. Blessings therefore are directly associated with God and come from God. Thus to express a blessing is like bestowing a wish on someone that they will experience the favor of God.

All the woman were excited as my Grand Mother brought me into the church. We were there to practice walking up the aisle  for a special blessing from a special ' guest'. My cousin, Billy, 4 years old like me, was there to accompany up the aisle carrying the chalice behind me. We walked carefully up twice and it was decided everything was good for the mass that evening.

That night we arrived to a filled church. I was dressed in a borrowed white dress with a crown of flowers in my curly hair. My cousin Billy was there, ready to do his part. We sat down back with the woman while our family went to their own seating. Billy couldn't sit still. He looked around, got in and out of his chair and make noises, bored. One of the woman took him up to his Mother in the family seating and he was taken screaming from the church.

The time came I was to walk up to the special guest for my blessing. The woman in charge gave me the Chalice. It was heavy. She said to hold it up straight. I walked slowly, looking at the Chalice so it wouldn't jump from my hands. When I reached the his Holiness, he took the Chalice, passing it to a priest standing with his. He said many words in Latin, passing his hand over me in the sign of the cross. He then smiled and asked if he could pick me up. I said yes. He lifted me to his shoulder and asked for applause from the congregation. A cheer rose up and we were taken to the centre for tea and cake. Yummmmy.
